What is the director saying about the family from the music played?

Rock music is a very aggressive style of music and it is associated with being rebellious. This may imply that the family is involved in some kind of underground crime world and the way they seem on first look isnt the actual case. At first they look like a normal family going on a trip and the initial classical music made it look this way, however the rock music makes it seem much more darker. However, it could also implement the film to be a comedy as the the music is contrapuntal to the scene and doesnt match.

How would you describe the use of the music?

I would describe it to be quite random as at the start, calming classical was played which fit the scene and the actions of the characters. However, the way in which the music transitioned had no real trigger making it seem quite random to me. The actions of the characters didnt match the music either showing it to be contrapuntal.

How do you think the narrative may develop?

I think the narrative can develop in two different ways. It may be a comical film as the music is completely out of context which could confuse the viewers which can create a comedic feel. This is also backed up as the facial expressions of the characters are very calm and are very opposite to the music being played. The film could develop as a thriller as the family may be involved in some kind of underground crimes. The music is a connotation to drug use and violence which may show the family to be quite dark behind closed doors.

Clockwork Orange

Discuss the choice of music. Is it the kind of music you would expect with for this scene?

In the scene, classical music is used in the background which is contrapuntal to the scene as it is quite violent. I dont expect to hear classical music in a fighting scene, however i have found it quite common in comedies and i find when it is used, the scene is usually in slow motion.

Why do you think the director used this piece to go with the action on the screen?

Personally, i believe the director used the apposing music to create a comical feel to the screen, especially in the way the violence is conducted. The way he hit the private part of his companion mixed with the clothing they wore was quite comical and the opposing music makes it less serious. The slow mo makes it fit with the music and the dramatic leaps also fit it

Once Upon A Time In America

What sounds do you hear? How do they help to build up tension?

The phone ringing constantly in the background adds tension as it makes the viewer question who is on the other line. It also used in a sound bridge between a bomb alarm, which indicated tragedy. The sound of the rain falling also adds suspense as it makes a negative feel to the scene, especially as someone died. The phone ringing continuously through out the scene creates mystery ass the viewers dont know the reason behind the call, or who is behind it.
Can you identify the sound bridge? What is the effect on the audience?
The sound bridge is found at the scene transition when, changing to a bomb alarm. This symbolised the change of scenery, and the bomb alarm indicates the explosion before we even see it.

Once Upon A Time In The West
At first we hear a horn which seems to be diegetic as it is a musical instrument which was usually played by cowboys in those times. The fact there is no music within the scene makes the audience focus on the background and the environment the characters are in. This adds realism to the scene as the audience feel they are in the scene with the character as they hear everything they would hear within that world.
