Media Paper 2 PPE - Learner response

Target grade met.

We don't know exactly what grade boundaries AQA will set as this is a new specification. These are the boundaries we've used, based on last year's A Level exam but reduced slightly to account for the new specification (out of 84):  

A* = 78; A = 68; B = 56; C = 44; D = 32; E = 21.

Now read through the AQA mark scheme for Paper 2. This is vital as the paper was an official specimen exam paper and therefore the mark scheme tells us a lot about what AQA are expecting us to produce. The original Paper 2 question paper is here if that is helpful too.

3) Write a question-by-question analysis of your performance. For each question, write how many marks you got from the number available and identify any points that you missed by carefully studying the AQA indicative content in the mark scheme:

 4) Choose your weaker of the three 25-mark questions. Write a full, new essay plan for this question using the indicative content in the mark scheme and with enough content to meet the criteria for Level 4 (top level). This will be somewhere between 5-7 well-developed paragraphs planned in some detail.
Q4: 19/25 
Paragraph 1: Videogame makers target audiences through changing representations: Differentiate themselves from competitors, Lara Croft example of change as she is depicted as a strong independent women where women in videogames are seen as trophies, sidekicks or damsels. Male players may want to play as they are used to playing with male characters, different perspective and will appeal to females.


Paragraph 2: Metroid Prime is a female character in bodysuit of armour which is typically male orientated within videogames. The game cover alone doesn't show she is female, portrayed in a gender neutral way- May not change target audience, female character could broaden audience. Within sci-fi, usually male protagonist, differentiating from other titles


Paragraph 3: Both CSP's portray women as being capable of doing same things as men, isn't usually seen within industry. Overtime, increasing number of playable females within gaming, however isn't necessarily done to aim specifically at a female target audience. Characters are still sexualised: Camera angles, over exaggerated hip swing, Lara's sexualised outfit, Samus Aran reveals less clothing at end of game upon how fast player completes game.


Paragraph 4: Other industries changing representations to target audience. Make-up industry is example. Maybelline used Manny Gutierrez (Gay Male YouTuber who specialises in make up) to broaden their campaign to males also. Bell boy is shown to be typically masculine uses mascara, making it not aimed just at gay men, but all men.

 5) Based on the whole of your Paper 2 learner response, plan FIVE topics / concepts / CSPs / theories that you will prioritise in your Easter Media revision timetable.
